The Professor, Richard, a university professor in the advanced stages of cancer and with only a few months to live, struggles to cope with his wife's betrayal and chooses to live his remaining life to the fullest without much regard for the world. Richard rediscovers his teaching methods, his life, and the art of love.

In the film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which recently premiered and has stirred controversy in Hollywood due to the actor's personal life, Johnny Depp portrays a dying university professor. Depp is joined by Zoey Deutch, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, Justine Worrington, and Danny Huston in the cast. The film, written and directed by Wayne Roberts, who previously directed the 2016 film Katie Says Goodbye, was originally titled Richard Says Goodbye. The Professor had its world premiere at the Zurich Film Festival in October and was generally well-received.
